SAGA-GIS contains set of very sophisticated tools for geoscientific/geospatial analyses. It requires roughly 200 MiB and contains many tools that are better developed and more importantly much fast and more stable than many commercial GIS solutions I worked with. Most Linux distributions contain a 2 year old version of SAGA-GIS (version 2.3.1). However, the current version is 6.4.0 and contains a lot of useful changes compared to version 2.3.1.
To compile it on Fedora 28 we have to install our normal build tools. Next, we should install the qgis dependencies first:
$ copr enable dani/qgis
$ dnf install qgis python3-qgis qgis-grass postgis postgis-utils postgis-docs
Then, we have to download the latest tarball from sourceforge and unpack it:
tar -xzf saga-6.4.0.tar.gz
If we want to compile SAGA-GIS with all features, then we have to install the following packages:

creates a default configuration file. If no file name is specified

Tool libraries in the 'tools' subdirectory of the SAGA installation
will be loaded automatically. Additional directories can be specified
by adding the environment variable 'SAGA_MLB' and let it point to one
or more directories, just the way it is done with the DOS 'PATH' variable.
A more convenient way to set various saga_cmd options is to edit a
configuration file. The default configuration file 'saga_cmd.ini' will be
loaded automatically, if present. You can specify a different configuration file with the '-C' or '--config' option. Use '--create-config' to
generate such a file with default options and edit it to fit your purposes.
The SAGA command line interpreter is particularly useful for the processing
of complex work flows by defining a series of subsequent tool calls in a
script file. Calling saga_cmd with the option '--create-batch' will
create an example of a DOS batch script file, which might be a good starting
point for the implementation of your own specific work flows.
